Penggunaan alat pelindung diri pada petani kakao dalam penggunaan pestisida harus ditanamkan sejak dini agar terbawa hingga usia tua. Petani cenderung menjadi target yang tepat untuk dibekali dengan hal yang positif seperti penggunaan alat pelindung diri pada petani agar dapat hidup lebih sehat dan terhindar dari penyakit. Survei awal yang dilakukan terhadap 20 petani, memiliki pengetahuan dan sikap yang rendah. Tujuan penelitian mengetahui faktor-faktor yang berhubungan dengan penggunaan alat pelindung diri pada petani kakao dalam penggunaan pestisida. Metode penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Yang dilakukan di Desa Kubang Tangah, Kecamatan Lembah Segar, Kota Sawahlunto bulan Agustus 2016 dengan jumlah populasi 283 responden, dan jumlah sampel 74 responden. Pengambilan sampel secara Purposive Sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara terpimpin dengan panduan kuesioner, kemudian diolah secara komputerisasi dengan uji statistik chi-square. Hasil analisis univariat diketahui 64,9% responden memiliki pengetahuan rendah, 52,7% memiliki sikap negatif, 52,7% memiliki tingkat ekonomi rendah, dan 60,8% tidak menggunakan APD secara lengkap. Hasil analisa bivariat diketahui faktor yang berhubungan dengan penggunaan APD pada petani kakao dalam penggunaan pestisida adalah pengetahuan (p = 0,000 dan OR = 14,444), sikap (p = 0,001 dan OR = 5,812), dan tingkat ekonomi (p = 0,000 dan OR = 21,875). Pada penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa variabel yang berhubungan dan berpeluang tinggi yaitu pengetahuan tentang penggunaan alat pelindung diri di Desa Kubang Tangah, Kecamatan Lembah Segar Kota Sawahlunto Tahun 2016. Disarankan petani menggunakan APD secara lengkap dan peran petugas kesehatan sangat dibutuhkan untuk melakukan penyuluhan mengenai APD. Abstract (EN): The use of personal protective equipment in the cocoa farmers in the use of pesticides should be instilled early in order to carry into old age. Results of univariate analysis known to 64.9% of respondents had low knowledge, 52.7% have a negative attitude, 52.7% had a low economic level, and 60.8% do not use a complete APD. Results of bivariate analysis known factors associated with the use of APD in the cocoa farmers in the use of pesticides is knowledge (p = 0.000 and OR = 14.444), attitude (p = 0.001 and OR = 5.812), and economic level (p = 0.000 and OR = 21.875). In this study it can be concluded that the related variables and a high chance that the knowledge about the use of personal protective equipment in the village of Kubang Tangah, District of Lembah Segar Sawahlunto 2016. Advised farmers to use APD immediately complete and the role of health workers is needed to make education about APD.
