Abstract :
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia that arises due to defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Despite the increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus, patient adherence to treatment remains low. This study aims to determine the impact of providing pillboxes on medication adherence among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in the Prolanis program at Guguk Panjang Community Health Center, Bukittinggi. A quasi experimental design employing pretest-posttest methodology was conducted from February 2023 to March 2023 at Guguk Panjang Community Health Center, Bukittinggi. A total of 20 respondents were randomly selected and assigned to either the experimental group, which received pillboxes, or the control group, which did not. Patient adherence was evaluated using pillboxes, and medication intake was measured using the pill count method. Additionally, the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale questionnaire was utilized to assess patient adherence. Results from the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks statistical test demonstrated a significant increase in remaining medication among participants who received the pillboxes. The average remaining medication was 3.46, with a standard deviation of 2.727 and a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the provision of pillboxes at Guguk Panjang Community Health Center, Bukittinggi City, led to an observable improvement in patient compliance.
