Abstract :
Low birth weight (LBW) remains a critical factor influencing neonatal mortality. A preliminary survey by researchers revealed an alarming increase in cases at IBNU SINA YARSI ISLAMIC HOSPITAL from 2017 to 2022, totaling 746 instances. This study aimed to identify the factors related to LBW,The research adopted an analytical survey design with a case-control approach using retrospective data. The study population comprised 138 mothers who gave birth to LBW infants (case group) and 276 mothers who did not (control group) at RSI ISLAM IBNU SINA YARSI BUKITTINGGI during 2017- 2022, utilizing a total sampling technique. Data were subjected to univariate and bivariate analyses, employing the chi-square test.Univariate analysis indicated that out of the LBW baby respondents, 54 mothers were at risk, 61 experienced parity, 70 had closely spaced pregnancies, 91 had varying gestational ages, 80 encountered anemia, 42 faced pre-eclampsia, 60 had different education levels, and 81 had Kpd. Meanwhile, bivariate analysis highlighted relationships between gestational age, parity, pre eclampsia, education, Kpd, anemia, and the incidence of LBW at RSI Islam Ibnu Sina Yarsi Bukittinggi. In conclusion, gestational age, parity, pre-eclampsia, education, Kpd, and anemia were all found to have associations with LBW incidence at RSI Islam Ibnu Sina Yarsi Bukittinggi. It is recommended that midwives enhance their skills in identifying pregnancy risks, provide comprehensive health information, and consistently maintain accurate records in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) book.
